Sea Creatures

Must be time to post my sea creatures.

version 1.

Medusa nematocysta is crocheted from yarn made from reused plastic shopping bags.
I unravelled large parts of this until I felt reasonably satisfied with the result.

Beach Detritus

I spend a lot time on the beach and in the ocean. Consequently, I have a vast collecition of beach detritus - driftwood, sponges, bits of plastic, fishing line, shells, shark egg cases, glass etc...... I'm hoping to one day make something out of them and thought by sorting, handling and photographing them I might get some ideas of what to make.

The driftwood was sorted into differnt sizes from very small and thin to fat and chunky. The studio floor looked like this for several weeks and then everything was packed away again.

The collections make quite intesting compositions. I love all the different colors and shapes. They smell of the sea!

The pastic pieces are incredible. The colours are predominantly blue and orange. Disposable lighters, rope and toothbrushes are the most common.

The black corksrew shapes are Port Jackson Shark Eggcases. The long thin thread attaches it to the seafloor.

The Launch of my Blog

2007 is approaching very fast and I promised myself I would have a blog by the end of 2006.... So here it is! For years I have been been working in my studio and felt I needed to document and archive my work and show what I'm doing. I started posting photos on Flickr a month ago and have received very generous and kind feedback, which has been very encouraging.Thank you all. After a while I realized I needed somewhere to describe my work in more detail and so I have taken the next step and started the Gooseflesh Blog.
My work is diverse, ranging from drawing to sculpture. I have experimented with many different media but have lately found that I have returned to techniques I learnt as a child whilst watching my paternal grandmother, Agnes Jørgensen. She was a very accomplished woman whose embroidery was exquisite. I would like to dedicate this blog to her and her legacy. 2007, I hope will be a year of consolidation and continuation of my enthusiasm for making things. I will attempt to post my work as it's created but I also want to post work from the past (I have a lot of catching up to do).
