Ways of Seeing
Seeing light has taken many years of training the brain.
The left side talks and makes up shapes and the right side sees so much abstract detail. It's the right side where I love to be. It's easy to get lost in the hills and valleys of a human face. A little creature wandering up and down and over the hills. Shadows behind the hills and bright sparks of light on the crests. It's a wonderful way to loose track of time.
From my sketch book:
I can get lost in tone when drawing so I try to draw with just a line sometimes too.
This quote is from a catalogue of a Giogio Morandi exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW in 1997. It has stayed with me ever since.
"Everything in our world is of this world except light. It is the presence of the universe in our daily life. This beam allows us not just to see but to understand the world." Lou Klepac.
I can understand why ancient civilizations worshipped the sun.

Oh you captured the heartbreak and the trust. Perfectly perfect. (She typed with her half beagle, half whippet under the covers, upside down, at her feet.)

Gorgeous drawings. I love the way you've laid them out like graphic novel squares, putting each one in a box. Do you make your boxes first or last? I really want to know.

Just tried to post a comment but think it got lost, so here I am again:
Had a look at your slide-show of drawings on Flickr - wonderful. Made me think of some of Eva Hesse's drawings, although tend more towards something mechanical whereas yours are more organic, and in terms of collage of Hannah Höch. Absolutely love your work, if I had money I'd invest in you!

beautiful drawings, you've captured the "eager-to-pleaseness" of the dog!

Thank you very much.
I love drawing my whippets. They are the perfect subjects...graceful and sleepy.

Your drawings are so wonderful!!!They seem to be full of love for your dog and for the light that let's you see the shapes to draw.
The quote is a real treat too....I become more of a sun worshipper every day!

great drawings and also great mosaics of composition. i like the way you are also playing with the boxes and how they relate from edge to edge. seeing is the core of your creating for sure. always the composer.
