Bright-eyed and Bushy-tailed

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday and feel bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready for 2012. I'm back in the studio this week after a visit to Sydney, Christmas celebrations and visitors to my little red house. Feels good.

Good news: The ' Entropy Collection' will be exhibited in the Tweed River Regional Gallery this November. I'll be scaling it up to approx. 5.0 x 1.5m.

 

The Sea Urchin

I have some very generous friends.

One recently gave me the most beautiful book about sea urchins. They have such an interesting flattened spherical shape with hexagonal bits that the spines are attached to. I've been studying their structure and sketching them.

Somewhere in the garden is a fossilized sea urchin..... I'll find it and take a photo of it.

Ode to Psyche

Some dreamy drawings from my sketchbook dedicated to Psyche. Apparently, in Greek, Psyche means butterfly and thesoul. I found some words to go with each from Milton's Comus and Keat's Ode to Psyche.

Ways of Seeing

Seeing light has taken many years of training the brain.

The left side talks and makes up shapes and the right side sees so much abstract detail. It's the right side where I love to be. It's easy to get lost in the hills and valleys of a human face. A little creature wandering up and down and over the hills. Shadows behind the hills and bright sparks of light on the crests. It's a wonderful way to loose track of time.

I can get lost in tone when drawing so I try to draw with just a line sometimes too.

This quote is from a catalogue of a Giogio Morandi exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW in 1997. It has stayed with me ever since.
